Warbots Online - 2 Early Videos

Hey guys, in addition to all the stuff I posted yesterday...I've created/uploaded two videos of the game :-) So you can finally see it in motion a little bit at least.

The videos are embeded on the http://www.warbotsonline.com - Warbots Homepage for easy viewing.

But as usual I'll add clicky images here, as well as a bunch of preview images for those who don't want to view the video :-)

Other than that, I'm still doing a lot of polishing on the game. I just got the volume/sound controls implemented, I'm working on coding some nice self-shadowing for the objects, and I'm also working constantly on the AI and adding the command point gameplay mode in.

For night fighting I'm going to allow vehicles to launch up flares to illuminate the terrain, I can hook this into the existing projected terrain lighting framework.

Well, enjoy the vids, post a comment or whatever lemme know what you think so far :-) Remember it's a WIP, and the game is 2-3 months into development.

Another update soon...

Video 1 shows the tank chassis with the machine gun weapon mounted on it...

Looks simply amazing - how/why do you continue putting the rest of us to shame with your awesomeness and insane productivity?! [headshake]

(P.S. keep up the good work)

It's on the way back burner :-) My dad and I are working on that one, and I lost the artist that I had working on that project due to school/work/etc. But I will come back around to it. I have at least 2-3 other 'ideas' for games, so I can stay busy :-)

The videos are nice, but the 3D sound was a bit strange, the music playing around the tank in the first video.. why is music played as a 3 sound ?

Yea I noticed that...for some reason FRAPS only records 2 of the 5.1 speakers, and it drops one of the sound channels in that process. I suppose I could force the sound system to run on 2 speakers/channels when I record a video, that might fix it.

It's not like that in the game :-D

Look amazing! I was just wondering, you mentioned 3 months of development, did you start with an existing engine or is that from scratch? Either way its very impressive (sorry haven't read back too far in your Journal yet so this might have been answered already...)

Hey there, well I've actually been developing this technology since about 2001 in some form or another :-o I still use the same Win32 message pump that I created back in high-school lol....some parts are that old.

Most of the game / rendering has been written from scratch, the rest being based off a skeleton snapshot of my tech from ~ 3 months ago...basically the state of my gangster game 'Urban Empires'. I stripped out all the gang code etc until it was just a shell [ with access to asset loading functions, Win32 pump, Direct3D init, XInput/DirectInput, GUI/Menu system, and all standard engine functions ] and built it up from there...I think the only rendering code that is mostly the same from UE is the HDR pipeline, and the windowed GUI system [ not shown in any screenshots ].

Lemme know if you have any other questions! Thanks for comment.
